Iquitos is the largest city in the Peruvian Amazon and the capital of the Loreto region. Located at the confluence of the Amazon, Nanay, and Itaya rivers, this vibrant city is known for its exotic character and its connection to the dense Amazon rainforest. The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a vast conservation area in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Known as the “Jungle of Mirrors” because of its waters that reflect the sky and vegetation, the reserve is home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. With rivers, lakes, and flooded forests, it is home to iconic species such as pink dolphins, jaguars, anacondas, and a variety of exotic birds. It offers visitors the opportunity to explore the jungle sustainably, with guided excursions to appreciate the natural beauty and rich culture of local communities.

DAY 01: IQUITOS / ECOTOURISM AND SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE

We will start our adventure through the Peruvian jungle at the airport in the city of Iquitos, then we will transfer to the town of Nauta, the first town founded by the Spaniards on the banks of the Marañón River; the journey lasts approximately 1.30 h. with a distance of 97 km. In Nauta, we will transfer to the pier to continue the journey to the Lodge, along the way we will visit the Casual Fund (flood season) where we will search for species of flora and fauna. Upon arrival at the Lodge, a descendant of the Kukama Kukamiria culture will give us a warm welcome and we can also enjoy a seasonal fruit refreshment. Room assignment. Lunch. Talk about myths and legends of the Amazon. Visit to the TSETSU viewpoint. Night excursion through the forest surrounding the Lodge to try to locate frogs, tarantulas, insects, and other species that are nocturnal. Overnight stay. Lunch – dinner.

DAY 02: ADVENTURE BOOTCAMP: ECOLODGE / PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast. Interpretation walk of flora and fauna in the restinga forest surrounding the Lodge. We will depart towards the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, with cold lunch on board, in the Nauta Caño area where we will register and enter the reserve. During our visit, we will go on an excursion in search of pink and gray dolphins through the stream of the same name, and we will also be in contact with the immense variety of flora and fauna that the reserve offers us. The first thing that will catch our attention is the river waters that reflect the sky, the clouds, the vegetation of the banks, and the large trees with such fidelity that the visitor has the sensation of sailing among endless mirrors, which is why Pacaya Samiria is also known as “The Jungle of Mirrors.” We will sail the Yanayacu river basin where the January 20 Community is located, we will be able to learn about the work carried out by the local inhabitants organized in groups for the management of natural resources to preserve the species of the NR, there will be activities such as climbing aguaje and we will learn about their way of life. We will continue sailing within the reserve, during the trip, we will identify a variety of birds and practice artisanal fishing with the material used by the

Amazonian man for subsistence purposes. Return to the Lodge. Overnight stay. Breakfast – lunch – dinner.

DAY 03: SUSTAINABILITY

After breakfast, boat excursion along the Marañón River to Cocha Shiriyacu or the same river (depending on the season and suitable conditions for fishing). Artisanal fishing, using techniques of the riverside man such as subsistence fishing, rod, and trap. We will visit the San Jorge community and the Women Artisans Center (Pua Kamatawara), known for their work in natural fiber (Chambira) and carving in wingo or calabash. Return to the Lodge. Overnight stay.

DAY 04: BIRDWATCHING

Review of the fishing traps left the previous day. Tasting of Amazonian breakfast with the fishing result. We will have the opportunity to spot several bird species. Free time for personal hygiene and then pack for our return journey to the city of Iquitos. Transfer to the hotel or airport. Breakfast – lunch.
